Laying hen farm register and producer codes
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzSince January 1, 2004, only eggs from a farm for which an identification number has been issued and which are marked with a corresponding producer code may be placed on the market (exception: direct marketing).
The following are subject to registration
- Farms with at least 350 or more laying hens or
- businesses with fewer than 350 laying hens, provided they place eggs on the market that are to be labeled in accordance with the marketing standards.
If fewer than 350 laying hens are kept and the eggs are sold without labeling and unsorted directly to the end consumer on the farm or at the door (direct marketing), there is no obligation to register.
Eggs that are sold at the weekly market are subject to compulsory marking. The farm must therefore be registered.
