Substitute schools offer lessons that correspond to public schools in their teaching and educational objectives. Attendance at a substitute school fulfils compulsory schooling. In addition, substitute schools must be approved and receive financial support from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The school authorities supervise the substitute schools.
Supplementary schools are independent schools that offer lessons that do not exist in the public school system. They complement the public education provision with their training programmes. The courses offered there are mainly in the field of vocational training, such as:
- Cosmetics
- Bless you
- Languages
- Technology
- new technologies,
- Communication
- commercial area etc.
At supplementary schools, compulsory attendance can only be fulfilled if the school has been authorised to do so. The operation of a supplementary school must be reported to the school authority. The school authorities supervise supplementary schools.
