License plates: Replacement

New license plates must be applied for at the registration authority responsible for the place of residence (main residence within the meaning of the Federal Registration Act).

In the case of legal entities, tradespeople and self-employed persons with a fixed place of business, the authority responsible is that of the registered office or the location of the branch involved.

• valid identity card or passport with original of the last registration certificate of the place of residence; foreign nationals require a valid identity document with current registration confirmation
• A power of attorney if an authorized representative is submitting the application (the authorized representative's ID and a copy of the vehicle owner's ID are required)
• Registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
• In case of loss of the license plate(s) additionally Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
• Previous license plate(s)
• Test report from the last general inspection (HU) if the rear license plate needs to be replaced

• Registration certificate part I
• Registration certificate part II

Fees are charged in accordance with the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).

The amount of the fees may vary depending on the case constellation. Specific information on this can be obtained from the relevant local registration authority. costs are also incurred for the new license plate(s)
