Teaching profession Recognize GDR qualifications and certificates of competence

The decision on the equivalence of a teaching examination acquired in the GDR with the Rhineland-Palatinate Bachelor's and Master's degree for the corresponding teaching profession or a teaching qualification with the Rhineland-Palatinate qualification for the corresponding teaching profession is generally made as part of the application procedure for recruitment to the preparatory service or teaching profession. A separate application to determine the equivalence of the teaching examination or teaching qualification is not required.

If, in exceptional cases, a decision on the determination of equivalence is required outside of the recruitment procedure, a corresponding written application must be submitted.

If the determination of equivalence is made as part of the application procedure for recruitment to the preparatory service or teaching service, please contact the Supervisory and Service Directorate, Department 31.

If, in exceptional cases, a separate decision on the equivalence of the teaching examination or teaching qualification is made, please contact the Ministry of Education.

In the case of an assessment of the equivalence of the teaching examination or teaching qualification as part of the application procedure for recruitment to the preparatory service or teaching service, the required documents can be found in the applicant information, which can be found on the homepage of the Supervisory and Service Directorate in Trier under the links below.

If the equivalence of the teacher training examination is checked outside of the recruitment procedure for the preparatory service or teaching service, the following documents must be enclosed with the application:

• Tabular list of completed training courses and activities performed,
• officially certified copies of the complete final documents (e.g. certificate and diploma),
• if the current name differs from the name on the qualification certificate, a copy of the marriage certificate, civil partnership certificate or change of name,

further documents required for the equivalence check may be requested subsequently.

• Application portal for the teaching profession in Rhineland-Palatinate

There are no fees.

Application deadlines for recruitment to the preparatory service; otherwise none.
