Adopting adults with effect of adopting minors
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzAn adult adoption may have the effects of a minor adoption. An adult adoption with effects of a minor adoption means that family law relationships are established between the adoptee and the adoptive parents and between the adoptee and the other relatives of the adopter. The relationship of the person to be adopted to the previous or legal parents expires in the case of an adult adoption with effects of a minor acceptance. Due to the legal consequences, an adult adoption with effects of a minor acceptance, as in the case of a minor adoption, is a so-called "full adoption".
Adult adoption, with the effects of accepting minors, results in the adoption of the same legal status as a child born into the family. This has other implications:
- The surname of the adoptee changes
- Maintenance rights and obligations arise vis-à-vis the adoptive parents
- Inheritance claims against the adoptive parents arise
