Obligation to install smoke alarms

According to the Rhineland-Palatinate State Building Regulations (LBauO), bedrooms and children's rooms as well as corridors through which escape routes from common rooms lead must each have at least one smoke alarm. The smoke alarms must be installed and operated in such a way that fire smoke is detected and reported at an early stage. Since July 12, 2012, existing homes must also be retrofitted.
