Apply for a permit for the direct discharge of rainwater into bodies of water
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzIf you wish to infiltrate rainwater or discharge it into a surface water body, you generally require a permit under water law.
Rainwater is water that runs off from built-up or paved areas.
Above-ground bodies of water are rivers, lakes, canals, streams, ditches and ponds.
Permission for infiltration is required if the infiltration may have a detrimental effect on the groundwater quality.
The permit requirement does not apply if no detrimental changes to the groundwater are to be expected. You then only have to notify the responsible authority of your project. Contact the authority if you are unsure whether you need to apply for a permit.
The permit specifies the type and extent of use. It may be subject to conditions and ancillary provisions. In contrast to an authorization, a permit can be revoked by the authorities.
