Apply to the Federal Aviation Office for an examination for technical personnel
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzAfter maintenance work on aircraft, these must be released by certifying staff. Who is authorized to issue the release is regulated in the permit for inspectors of aviation equipment of various categories. You may receive the inspection permit from the German Federal Aviation Office (LBA) after successfully completing tests. This includes, for example, the tests for technical personnel.
If you would like to take part in an examination for technical personnel, you must apply to the LBA for an examination registration. You can apply to take the following examinations:
- Theory test for category L according to Part-66
- Type examination for aircraft of group 2/3 according to Part-66
- Oral-practical examination for the examiner's license as an aircraft inspector (PvL)
If you meet certain requirements for taking the examination, you will be given an examination date.
When you apply for the examination, you declare your willingness to take the examination. You will either be invited to an examination date (theory examination) or the LBA will contact you to arrange an examination date (sample examination and oral/practical examination).
The following information is required for the application:
- Data on the applicant
- Information about existing licenses
- Depending on the exam selected: Data on the exam and exam content

For the theory test for category L according to Part-66:
- You can register for the next possible examination date or arrange a different examination date.

For the type examination for aircraft of group 2/3 according to Part-66 and the oral-practical examination for the examiner license for aircraft (PvL):
- Provide information on the training or instruction organization.

Oral-practical examination for the examiner's license as an aircraft inspector (PvL):
- You must decide how you wish to provide proof of reliability and upload the required documents.
