The building supervisory authority can check compliance with public law regulations and requirements as well as the proper fulfilment of the obligations of those involved in the construction.

Also in order to enable the building supervisory authority to supervise the construction, the execution of projects requiring approval, including the excavation of the excavation pit, may only be started if the building owner has notified the building supervisory authority in writing of the start of construction at least one week in advance; this also applies to the resumption of construction work after an interruption of more than three months.

Whether and to what extent an inspection of the building condition is carried out is at the discretion of the building supervisory authority. A certificate of the result of the inspection must be issued at the request of the building owner.
