Apply for a temporary passport
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzYou will have to wait at least 2 weeks for a regular passport. An express passport takes around 3 to 4 working days. If this is not quick enough for your travel plans, you can apply for a temporary passport. You must justify this to the Citizens' Registration Office.
You will receive the temporary passport immediately when you apply, so you do not have to wait for it.
The temporary passport does not contain an electronic storage medium (chip). Your fingerprints are therefore not recorded.
In some countries, such as the USA, visa-free entry is only possible with a passport that contains a chip. If you wish to enter with a temporary passport, you will therefore also need a visa in these cases.
