Forest fire protection
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzWould you like to light and maintain a fire or use open light in the forest?
Due to the general right of access to the forest for citizens, there is an increased risk of forest fires. Therefore, according to the provisions of the State Forest Act, you may only light and maintain a fire or use open light in the forest and at a distance of less than 100 meters from the forest with the permission of the forestry office.
However, this general prohibition does not apply to persons who own the forest, who have a right to use it or who are employed in the forest, or to persons authorized to hunt while hunting. The law generally assumes that this group of people handle open fires responsibly. Furthermore, the ban does not apply if the fire is lit and maintained in a fire pit set up or approved by the forestry office or in an officially approved facility. Barbecues are also permitted on land adjacent to the forest with approved residential development.
In addition, smoking is not permitted in the forest.
