Senior Citizens' Representation
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzMany municipalities, cities and districts in Rhineland-Palatinate have established municipal senior citizens' representatives/senior citizens' advisory councils by statute or resolution. The senior citizens' representatives work on a voluntary, non-denominational and non-partisan basis and do not pursue any commercial objectives.
The following areas of responsibility fall within its remit:
- It advises members of its own generation on regional support options and services in the personal sphere of life.
- It develops or accompanies offers that enable a self-determined life in old age. It provides support with the aim of promoting activities and independence and maintaining them for as long as possible.
- Senior citizens' representatives address the issues of the older generations and inform the public about opportunities and developments in senior citizens' policy, also with the aim of encouraging older citizens to play an active role in shaping it.
- The Seniors' Representative Council should be a member of all municipal committees that are dedicated to the concerns of older people. It seeks cooperation with organizations that are important for shaping the living environment of older people.
- It works in partnership with the council and administration and has the right to submit motions and speak on matters of local government relating to the interests of the older generation.
The Landesseniorenvertretung Rheinland-Pfalz e.V. is the association of municipal senior citizens' representatives/senior citizens' councils in Rhineland-Palatinate.
