Applying for the renewal of a category D, DE, D1 or D1E driving license

The responsible authority is the district administration, in large cities belonging to a district or independent of a district the city administration.

• You have a driving license with a category D, D1, DE or D1E license.
• You are suitable to drive a bus.

• identity card or passport
• current driver's license
• biometric photo
• Proof of eyesight (not older than 2 years)
• Proof of physical and mental aptitude (not older than 1 year)
• if you are 50 years or older: performance psychology report (not older than 1 year)

The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).

If the driver's license is sent directly to your home address, an additional shipping fee will be charged.

You can submit the application at the earliest 6 months before the expiry date of the previous driving license.

If you do not submit the application until after the expiry date of your previous driving license, you will no longer be granted an extension, but a new driving license. The fact that you previously held a corresponding driving license will then no longer be evident from the new license.
