Carry out a teacher examination

The second state examination is a prerequisite for admission to the preparatory service for the respective teaching position.

The second state examination consists of a practical examination and an oral examination.

The practical examination consists of one examination lesson in each of the two subjects in which the teaching qualification is to be acquired.

The oral examination comprises

• a partial examination in one of the two subjects or in one of the two focal points of special educational support with a presentation of a subject-related teaching project or a support plan based on the candidate's own practical teaching experience as well as in the didactics and methodology of the examination subject,
• a partial examination in the other examination subject in the didactics and methodology of the subject or in education and teaching in the other focus of special educational support,
• a partial examination on the practical implementation of educational science aspects as well as on school law and civil service law

The Supervisory and Service Directorate is responsible for recruitment to the preparatory service for teaching posts at schools. The State Examination Office for Teaching Qualifications at Schools is responsible for conducting the second state examination.

The admission and conduct of the second state examination is carried out by the State Examination Office for Teaching Qualifications at Schools as part of the preparatory service.

Apart from the documents required for admission to the preparatory service for the teaching profession at schools, no further documents are required for the second state examination.
