School vacations
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzSchool vacations are divided into summer vacations ("major vacations") and other vacation blocks ("minor vacations").
For public general and vocational schools as well as schools for adults, the school vacations in the whole of Germany are 75 working days per school year.
The summer vacations are coordinated by a working group of the federal states on a multi-year basis and decided by the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Länder (KMK). The basis for this is the agreement between the federal states of the Federal Republic of Germany on the standardization of the school system (Hamburg Agreement).
Following the announcement of the summer vacation dates, the "short vacations" are planned and determined by the individual federal states. In this context, numerous interest groups are involved in Rhineland-Palatinate before the corresponding vacation dates are fixed. In addition to pupils, parents and teachers, these include authorities, committees, churches, institutions and associations.
