Have foreign school leaving certificates recognised as a university entrance qualification
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzIf you have obtained a school leaving certificate abroad and would like to study in Germany, you can have your school leaving certificate recognised. It will be checked whether your school-leaving certificate allows you access to study at a German university. With the issued certificate, you can then apply for a course of study.
Information can also be found at the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB). There you will find recommendations for the evaluation of foreign university entrance qualifications for admission to studies in Germany. The recommendations can be found in the database "anabin" under the heading "School leaving certificates with university access".
The anabin database lists foreign school leaving certificates that enable access to higher education in their home country. The evaluation suggestions provide information on whether you can start studying at a German university with your school leaving certificate. For degrees that do not allow direct access to higher education in Germany, you will receive information about the additional requirements you have to meet. These can be additional periods of study at a recognised university outside of Germany or an assessment test at a German Studienkolleg.
The decision as to whether a school leaving certificate is recognised is made by the university at which you wish to study.
