Vocational preparation year general information
Source: Serviceportal Rheinland-PfalzIf you have not obtained a vocational qualification ("Hauptschulabschluss") after at least nine years of school, the vocational preparation year (BVJ) will prepare you specifically for entering vocational training or employment. The BVJ helps you to acquire important professional and personal skills that will facilitate your transition into the world of work. You can complete the BVJ with the subsequent acquisition of the vocational qualification ("Hauptschulabschluss").
The main aim of this is to strengthen your ability to enter and complete the regular training market. A further goal is the subsequent acquisition of the vocational qualification ("Hauptschulabschluss"). This option opens a door for you that leads to a first school-leaving certificate. The BVJ is therefore specifically tailored to your individual needs - with a mandatory internship, individual learning guidance that is also mandatory, school social work and a timetable that has a high practical component and strengthens basic skills.
This offer provides you with an orientation on various vocational focuses in order to identify your interests and abilities and increase your chances of finding an apprenticeship or job.
The BVJ is taught full-time, is structured according to vocational specializations and lasts one school year. Vocational specializations can be, for example Health and care, nutrition and home economics, social work, construction, electrical, paint, wood or metal technology, business and administration.
Following the BVJ, you can, for example, start vocational training, switch to vocational school I or take part in a pre-vocational training program offered by the Federal Employment Agency.
