Animal Burial Farewell Forest
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzAccording to the Animal By-Products Disposal Act, deceased pets must be properly burned, buried or sent to the rendering facility. The following options are available:
- Disposal in an animal carcass disposal facility (for Rhineland-Palatinate this is done by the company SecAnim in Rivenich);
- incineration in an approved pet crematorium;
- Buried on a site belonging to the animal owner, but not in water protection areas and not in the immediate vicinity of public paths and squares. The carcasses (up to the size of a large dog) may only be buried in such a way that they are covered with a sufficient layer of earth at least 50 centimetres thick, measured from the edge of the pit;
- Burial in a pet cemetery or in a farewell forest.
A farewell forest is such an approved area in a forest that functions as an animal cemetery. Here the burial of small pets Pet animals (up to dog size) is possible.
