Head lice infestation in the school or daycare center Notification
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzHead lice infestation is the most common parasitic disease in Europe. Anyone can get head lice. This is not due to a lack of hygiene.
Especially in places where many children come together, head lice are transmitted quickly. Parents therefore have to deal with the issue of head lice again and again.
According to § 34 paragraph 1 of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG), children with head lice are not allowed to enter rooms of the community facility, use facilities of the community facility or participate in events of the community facility until, according to medical judgment, there is no longer any fear of spreading the lice. Parents/guardians must inform the communal facility immediately of the head lice infestation in accordance with Section 34 (5) IfSG. The management of the community facility must notify the public health department immediately in accordance with Section 34 (6) and provide information on the disease and personal details.
- As a parent, inform the school or daycare center management immediately in writing or verbally if your child has a head lice infestation. If possible, also inform the parents of children with whom your child has a lot of contact.
- Treat your child with the medically prescribed products at the specified intervals.
- If there are no more lice or nits capable of reproducing on your child's head, he/she may attend daycare/school again as usual.

You discover that your child has head lice.
As a parent, as soon as you discover that your child has head lice, you must inform the institution that your child attends immediately.
