Dog ownership deregistration
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzThe keeping of a dog must be deregistered if:
- the dog has died.
- you have given the dog to someone else.
- you have given the dog to an animal shelter.
- the dog has escaped and you assume that it will not return.
Deregistration and the return of the dog tax tag must be done at the responsible office.
Please contact the municipal administration of the municipality not belonging to an association, the administration of the association of municipalities or the city administration in cities not belonging to a district or large towns belonging to a district.
You can deregister your dog at the Citizens' Office.

Documents may be required. Please contact the responsible office.
In principle, however, the dog tax stamp must be returned when deregistering.
- Owner's identity card.
- If applicable, a certificate of euthanasia from the vet.
- the dog tax stamp.
- the deregistration form.
The deregistration must take place immediately at the end of dog ownership.
Every dog owner is obliged to register or deregister dogs within 14 days of their arrival or departure.
