Applying for a license plate for electric vehicles

You can apply for the E-license plate in person at your local registration authority:

• Make an appointment with your local licensing authority by phone or, if possible, online.
• Bring all required documents as well as the payment amount of EUR 27.00 with you to your appointment.
• Your documents will be checked directly on site.
• If the test is positive, you will receive your personal E-license plate during the appointment.

• Search for your vehicle registration office on the website of the Road Traffic Office

District administrations and city administrations of the independent cities or, in some cases, of the large cities belonging to the district.

Your vehicle must have an alternative propulsion system or an alternative energy source.

• Proof that the vehicle is a vehicle within the meaning of the Electric Mobility Act, for example by means of the registration certificate Part I (also known as the vehicle registration document), the certificate of conformity or the data confirmation (abbreviation: COC)
• Registration Certificate Part I
• If applicable, previous license plates
• in the case of used vehicles: general inspection report
• Electronic insurance confirmation
