Herd protection measures Apply for funding
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzLynxes and wolves are under strict protection throughout Europe. The current natural recolonization of Rhineland-Palatinate by the wolf is accompanied by the state government with support measures.
Wolves live almost exclusively on wild animals such as deer and wild boar. However, it cannot be ruled out that they also tear farm animals such as sheep or goats on pasture or fallow deer into enclosures, especially if they are not sufficiently protected by fences or herd guard dogs. Adequate herd protection is very important because wolves should not get used to farm animals as readily available prey.
In the prevention areas and buffer zones to prevention areas, sufficient herd protection is therefore also a prerequisite for the payment of crack compensation by the state. Here, the state therefore promotes the purchase of fences or herd guard dogs.
