If you want to go fishing, you need a fishing license. This is issued by the municipal administration (municipal or association municipal administration) on application, provided that you have passed a state fishing examination or there are circumstances that make it unnecessary to take the fishing examination.
In Rhineland-Palatinate, fishing examinations are held up to four times a year on the first Friday of March, June, September and December. The fishing examination is conducted by the district administration. A fee of EUR 50.00 or the reduced fee of EUR 40.00 for school pupils, trainees, students, those doing youth voluntary service, people with disabilities, recipients of benefits under the Second, Third or Twelfth Book of the Social Code or the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act is charged for the fishing examination.
The prerequisite for admission to the examination is participation in a course to prepare for the fishing examination, which must be proven in writing or in electronic form.
The course must cover all examination areas specified in Section 6 (2) and include practical instruction in the use of fishing gear and the handling of caught fish. Participation in the course in accordance with sentence 1 must include at least eight hours of practical instruction as defined in sentence 2 and comprise at least 30 hours in total.
For fishing, you also need a fishing permit from the fishing licensee or fishing leaseholder of the respective water.
