Issue a marriage certificate
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzThe marriage is recorded (notarized) in the marriage register at the registry office. On the basis of this notarization - as long as the register entry has not yet been saved, also on the basis of a transcript - the registry office issues a marriage certificate upon request.
The following are included in a marriage certificate
- the first names and surnames of the spouses,
- the place and date of their birth and
- the place and date of the marriage.
If the marriage is dissolved, this is stated at the end of the marriage certificate.
A certified printout from the marriage register can also be issued.
The marriage certificate is usually issued by the registry office that keeps the marriage register with the marriage entry.
The personal data in the civil status register is subject to data protection. Marriage certificates can therefore only be issued
- for persons to whom the entry relates
and their
- spouse or spouses,
- civil partner (within the meaning of the Civil Partnership Act) as well as
- ancestors and descendants.
Other persons, including close relatives such as siblings, aunts and uncles, will only receive a marriage certificate if they can credibly demonstrate a legal interest (e.g. with a letter from the probate court, a court judgment or an enforceable title).
The issuing of a marriage certificate or a certified register printout costs 13.00 euros, the second and each additional piece requested and produced in the same process costs 6.50 euros.
