Notes on the declaration of conformity
Since 2006, every newly registered boat that was first placed on the market of the European Community or another State party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area after 15 June 1998 requires a declaration of conformity (Recreational Craft Directive 94/25/EC; § 3 (1) sentence 1 of the Ordinance on the Placing of Recreational Craft on the Market). This declaration of conformity is a certificate from the manufacturer that the boat has been built according to European directives. For proof, a so-called "CE mark" is attached to the boat. This certificate is available for every boat built from 15 June 1998 and is issued by the dealer at the time of sale. Often this declaration of conformity can be found in the manual or the operating instructions of the boat. If this is not the case, this declaration can be requested from the manufacturer of the boat. For jet skis, the declaration of conformity will be required from 1 January 2006. This means that for all jet skis built after 1 January 2006, such a declaration of conformity must be submitted.
