License plates: exchange for Euro license plates

The exchange of the license plates must be applied for at the registration authority responsible for the place of residence (main residence within the meaning of the Federal Registration Act).

In the case of legal persons, traders and self-employed persons with a fixed place of business, the competent authority is the one of the registered office or the place of the establishment involved.

• valid identity card or passport with original of the last registration certificate of the place of residence; foreign nationals need a valid identity document with a current confirmation of registration
• a power of attorney if an authorized representative makes the request (the authorized's ID and a copy of the vehicle owner's ID are required)
• Registration certificate Part I (vehicle registration document) and Part II (vehicle registration document)
• Test report of the last general inspection (not applicable for vehicles whose first general inspection was not yet due)
• Previous license plates for destamping

Information on the fee amount can be obtained from the responsible licensing authority. There are also costs for the new license plates.
