Have your identity card brought up to date
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzYour data on your identity card must always be up to date. You can apply for a new one at your identity card authority at your main place of residence. This is usually the citizens' registration office.
You can also apply to any other identity card authority if you can show good cause. Please clarify the recognition of your reason in advance with the authority you have chosen. There is a lack of jurisdiction surcharge. This means that you will have to pay more for your new identity card.
If you change your address, you do not need a new identity card, but you must still present it at the Bürgeramt at your main place of residence. When you do so, the authorities will note the new address on a sticker on the back of the ID card. They will also change the address in the chip of the ID card.
Please note the following general information from the Landstuhl Residents' Registration Office on applying for an identity card:
- a personal visit is required
- Present your previous identity card or passport
- a current biometric photo in passport photo size (not older than 6 months)
- Birth certificate, if applicable (for first issue or if the previous document is lost)
- Marriage certificate (for change of name)
- up to 3 months before the age of 16: A parent or legal guardian must be present and the power of attorney (+ copy of ID/passport) of the parent or legal guardian who is not present must be available
