Water supervision

The task of water supervision is to

to monitor groundwater and surface waters as well as the fulfillment of public law obligations arising from water regulations
to avoid or eliminate impairments of the water balance
to ensure the fulfillment of obligations under public law
to regularly review and adapt approvals granted

Responsible is

for measures requiring approval: the authority responsible for the approval.
for measures not requiring approval:
- the higher water authority (Struktur- und Genehmigungsdirektion Nord or Süd), if the maintenance of the watercourse or the facility is the responsibility of the state, the districts or the independent cities,
- in all other cases, the lower water authority (district or city administration).
