Recognising continuing education for psychological psychotherapists

Step 1: Apply to the chamber for entry in the further training register at the start of the further training program.

Step 2: Once you have successfully completed your further training (please note the current requirements of the LPK RLP further training regulations), you can complete the application for recognition of an additional qualification and send it to the Chamber's postal address together with all the necessary documents.

If the application is approved, you will immediately receive the notice of recognition and the certificate authorizing you to use the additional title.

However, if there are any queries or missing evidence, the LPK RLP will contact you.

If your application is rejected, you will receive the notice of rejection. Please note that the application will still be subject to a fee. You then have one month to lodge an appeal if necessary.

You must meet the following requirements for the recognition of further training in this field:

• License to practice as a psychological psychotherapist or child and adolescent psychotherapist

• At the time of application for recognition of the additional designation: Membership of the LPK RLP

• Application for entry in the further training register at the start of further training

• Completion of theoretical and practical further training in the field at further training institutions recognized by a state chamber of psychotherapists

• Fulfillment of all requirements of the further training regulations, the evidence to be submitted is listed in detail in the application form.

• First of all: The form for entry in the continuing education register.
• On the website of the State Chamber of Psychotherapists you will find a separate application form for recognition of the respective additional title for each of the nine areas.

The fee for an application for the acquisition of an additional designation depends on the effort, but amounts to at least € 360.00.

There are no deadlines for submitting applications.

In the case of negative decisions, the opposition period is one month.

The service described here is the possibility of further training in a specific field. However, the new Psychotherapists Act, which was passed on November 22, 2019 and came into force on September 1, 2020, will soon necessitate far-reaching changes in the psychotherapeutic training and further education landscape. • LPK RLP - Information on the new psychotherapy training program

There is often uncertainty about the differences between training, further training and continuing education. To clarify:

• Training includes everything that serves to obtain a license to practice, i.e. Bachelor's and Master's degrees as well as the subsequent training of at least three years to become a psychological psychotherapist or child and adolescent psychotherapist.
• Further training in the field: After licensure, PPs and KJPs have the opportunity to complete at least 18 months of further training at a recognized training institution in order to deepen their knowledge in a specific area and acquire an additional title that can be announced.
• Further training serves to secure, expand and update the basic knowledge acquired in initial and further training. Every chamber member who works in psychotherapy is obliged to undergo continuing professional development. Further training can take the form of participation in workshops, seminars, congresses, symposia and lectures, case conferences, work shadowing etc., for example.
