How quickly do I have to register after my move?

Yes, because it only works via the online ID function of your ID card or eID card.

Why do I have to enter the move-out and move-in date?
Normally, move-out and move-in take place on the same day. Rental contract periods, visits or moving journeys are NOT relevant. If the two dates actually differ and you have moved into another apartment in the meantime, please contact your registration office.

Why does the registration authority need a digital copy of my landlord's confirmation of residence?
When registering a move-in, you are legally required to present the landlord's confirmation of residence to the registration authority.

How do I get a landlord's confirmation of residence?
Your landlord, usually your landlord, is obliged to issue you with a landlord's confirmation of residence. This document is for submission to the authorities. Please do not upload your contract.

What happens once I have submitted my data?

How do I get address stickers for my ID card?

which is provided with a special security code. If you have moved to a new municipality and are in possession of a valid passport, you will also receive a residence sticker for your passport.

I have sent off my application, why am I unexpectedly receiving a letter in the post?
If you have problems with your landlord's documents, you may also receive a letter at your new home address. This contains a code that you must enter in the online service. This is an alternative way of checking your new home address.

I have misplaced the address label. Does this mean my registration is incomplete and am I in breach of the obligation to register?
Don't worry. Your registration is valid as soon as your registration address has been updated and the registration confirmation has been made available to you in the online service. Once your ID card has been updated via the online service and online ID function (overwriting the chip in the ID card with your new address), your ID document is up to date. Nevertheless, you should update the address sticker. You can obtain a new sticker from your local authority. Do you still have the cover letter for the lost address sticker?
