Weapons and ammunition - applying for an extension of the carry permit
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzIf you want to take weapons or ammunition with you, you will need a permit. If you have already received a permit, you can have it extended several times.
You can obtain an extension of the carry permit as follows:
- You submit an application to the firearms authority and submit the required documents, stating the extent to which the following data has changed:
- about your person: first and last name, date and place of birth, place of residence, address, in the case of companies also telephone or fax number, number, date of issue and issuing authority of the passport or identity card
- for firearms: Number and type, category or registered trademark of the manufacturer, model designation, caliber, manufacturing number, CIP proof mark if applicable,
- for other weapons: Number and type of weapons,
- for ammunition: number and type, category according to Directive 93/15/EEC, company or registered trademark of the manufacturer, caliber and, if applicable, CIP ammunition test mark,
- on the reason for carrying: precise details of the place to which the weapons or ammunition are to be taken, purpose of carrying;
- the required documents will be checked and you may have to submit further required documents;
- the decision under firearms law is made
Responsibility lies with the local weapons authorities of the independent cities and districts responsible for your place of residence or habitual abode.
The same requirements apply to you for an extension as for the initial issue of the permit.
A permit to take firearms or ammunition into or through the Federal Republic of Germany requires that you
- have reached the age of 18,
- have the necessary reliability and personal suitability,
- have proven the required expertise and a need.
Permission to take firearms or ammunition to another Member State may be granted if you
- are entitled to acquire and possess the weapons,
- the prior consent required under the law of the other Member State has been obtained and you can guarantee safe transportation.
If you are a hunter, sport shooter or traditional shooter, exemptions may also apply to you when renewing a permit.
- for representation: written authorization
- for persons from a third country when taking firearms or ammunition through the Federal Republic of Germany to another Member State: prior consent of the Member State, if this is required
- where applicable, official notification from the home country regarding the required reliability, personal suitability and sufficient expertise, each with a German translation
Administrative fee for transportation to the Federal Republic of Germany: EUR 50;
Administrative fee for transportation through the Federal Republic of Germany: EUR 50;
Administrative fee for transportation to another Member State of the European Union: EUR 50
Validity of the extension: up to one year (can be extended several times).
In addition to the transport permit, there is also a movement permit that includes a different service.
