More than 130,000 inhabitants live in the 48 municipalities of the district, covering an area of around 590 square kilometers in a true paradise between forest and vineyards, dominated by castles and ruins steeped in history.
The outstanding features of the district include its attractive landscape, high residential and recreational value, favorable climate and southern atmosphere, which has earned the region the nickname "Tuscany of Germany". However, it is also characterized by its industrially experienced population, good access infrastructure and openness to borders, which is not least due to the open-mindedness of the Palatinate people.

The German Wine Route runs through the district of Bad Dürkheim from Bockenheim in the north to Neustadt and is a popular destination for visitors from all over the world. The focus here is not on the hustle and bustle but on relaxation from the stress of everyday life. With a wide range of leisure activities, historical sights, excellent hotels and inns, exclusive conference facilities and even a vacation on a vineyard or farm, the district offers its guests everything their heart desires. The most famous vineyards in the world, the best-known wine towns and wine-growing villages are all part of the special charm of the German Wine Route. Blooming almond trees in spring and the grape harvest in autumn characterize the district, where figs and lemons thrive in the mild climate.

In addition to wine, the Bad Dürkheim district offers no less attractive recreational opportunities with its forest. Half of the district's area belongs to the magnificent landscape of the Palatinate Forest, the largest contiguous forest area and nature park in Germany, which is accessible via a well-marked and well-developed network of hiking trails.
