Local public transport
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzLocal public transport plays an important role in Rhineland-Palatinate. The entire federal state is connected by the transport associations with tram, suburban train and bus.
There are a total of five Rhineland-Palatinate transport associations.
On a working day, around 30,000 passengers travel on buses and trains in the Bad Dürkheim district. They travel to work or school, go shopping, to the doctor or use public transport for leisure purposes. The district of Bad Dürkheim is responsible for road-based public transport and must ensure that the service meets the mobility needs of users while remaining "affordable" for both the district and passengers. The district has defined the framework for the development of local public transport in the local transport plan. The Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy and Mobility provides information on state-wide mobility here (external link).
Local rail passenger transport (SPNV) forms the backbone of public transport. It offers the highest travel speed and the greatest frequency of service. In the district of Bad Dürkheim, there is a prominent north-south axis with the regional trains R45 and R46 as well as two west-east axes with the Rhein-Haardtbahn, which is operated by the transport company Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH, and the S-Bahn S1 and S2.
Buses have two tasks to fulfill in local public transport: as so-called feeder and drop-off services at stations and stops, they provide the connection between road and rail for passengers. They are also responsible for providing access to towns and municipalities. The route map (pdf document) provides an overview of the routes in the district
An on-call cab has the same function. However, it only runs if the passenger requests it in advance by telephone: it then serves the stops specified in the on-call cab timetable at the times specified in the timetable.
All bus, train and on-call cab connections and departure times can be found in the timetable information of the Rhine-Neckar Transport Association (VRN).
