Temporary driving licence – apply for a transitional driving licence
Source: Serviceportal Rheinland-PfalzFor the transitional period until a replacement licence is issued (after loss, theft or inoperability of the licence), the competent driving licence authority may issue a provisional driving licence.
Contact the driving licence office in your district or city (main residence). The competent authority is the district administration, in large district-affiliated or district-free cities the city administration.

As with the issuance of the driver's license.
- Identity card or passport (passport only in conjunction with a registration certificate)
- The driving licence authority shall ensure, at the applicant's expense, by obtaining information from the Central Register of Driving Licences and from the Register of Fitness to Drive, that the applicant holds the corresponding driving licence, if applicable, biometric photographs.
- only in case of unrecognizability: old unrecognizable driver's license
- only in case of theft: theft report from the police (if the theft took place abroad, a translation is also required)
The fees are set by the respective authority in accordance with the scale of fees for road transport measures (GebOSt).
If your driving licence has been lost or destroyed, you must report the loss/theft immediately and obtain a replacement document.
The validity of the replacement driving licence results from the time until the new driving licence has been issued and sent to the driving licence office.
Immediate issuance of the replacement driving licence
The application is made personally on the basis of the signature. At the same time, the application for a new card driving license takes place.
There is no provisional international driving licence.
