Register dog ownership

The obligation to register is regulated in detail in the respective municipal statutes, as is the assessment of the dog tax.
The obligation to register a dog applies, among other things, to
- for dogs older than three months. They must be identified by a transponder with an identification number
- when acquiring a new dog or moving in with a dog
- when caring for or keeping a dog for a period of time as specified in the local dog tax statutes
Please note that more differentiated and supplementary regulations apply to the keeping of so-called dangerous dogs.
According to the statutes on dog tax, every dog that is kept in the municipality must be registered by the owner within 14 days at the tax office or citizens' office. Dogs should also be deregistered within 14 days of the dog being abolished, lost or deceased, either in writing or verbally at the tax office or citizens' office.
Dog tags must be returned when deregistering. The dog tag may not be passed on to the new owner.
Applications for a reduction or exemption from the dog tax must be submitted in writing to the tax office if the relevant conditions for the tax reduction or exemption are met. If the conditions no longer apply or if there are other changes in dog ownership, this must also be reported to the tax office within 14 days.
