Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzVehicles whose owners are exempt from vehicle tax can be issued with license plates with green lettering on a white background. Certain vehicles that are exempt from vehicle tax have license plates with green lettering and a green border on a white background. For example, vehicles belonging to non-profit organizations and agricultural and forestry businesses may be exempt from tax. In addition, special trailers for transporting sports equipment or animals for sporting purposes, which are used exclusively for these purposes, can be exempt from vehicle tax and the vehicles used for this purpose can be given license plates with green lettering. certain trailers.
If the conditions for tax exemption are no longer met, the license plate with green lettering must be returned and the registration authority must issue one with black lettering.
Vehicles with green license plates may only be used for the purposes for which they were exempt from vehicle tax. If the vehicle is used for any other purpose, this constitutes an offense against the tax law and can be prosecuted.
The application for the allocation of a green license plate must be submitted to the registration authority in connection with the registration of the vehicle.
Applications for registration must be submitted to the registration authority responsible for the place of residence (main residence within the meaning of the Federal Registration Act).
In the case of legal entities, tradespeople and self-employed persons with a fixed place of business, the authority responsible is that of the registered office or the location of the branch involved.
