Renew driver card
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzThe driver card is used to record driving times and rest periods for the commercial transportation of goods and passengers.
The driver card is valid for 5 years from the date of issue. You can have the driver card renewed on application. You must do this at least 15 working days before the card expires. If your driver card has already expired, you must place a new initial order.
Your renewed driver card is valid immediately after the expiration date of the old card. You must carry the expired driver card for at least 28 days in addition to the new card.
Only you may use the driver card issued to you personally. It always remains your property, even if your employer has paid for the driver card. In principle, they are not obliged to cover the costs.
To apply for a driver's license, please contact the driver's licensing authority of the locally responsible district or city administration of the independent and large district towns; in the area of the large district towns of Bingen am Rhein and Ingelheim am Rhein, contact the Mainz-Bingen district administration.
District administrations or city administrations of the independent and large district cities
- You are resident in the Federal Republic of Germany.
- You have a valid driver's license with one of the following categories: B, BE, C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D, DE.
- Your valid driver's license must correspond to one of the above categories if it was issued in an EEA member state.
- Application for renewal of the driver card
- Proof of identity
- Valid domestic driving license or driving license from a country of the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA)
- entitles the holder to drive vehicles for which regulations on driving times and rest periods must be observed
- Proof of residence in Germany and address
- Proof of birth and surname, first names, date and place of birth
- 35 mm x 45 mm photograph against a light background showing a frontal view of the applicant without headgear (biometric passport photo)
- If you are applying for a new driver card due to damage or malfunction of the card, you must present it to the issuing authority or body
You can have your driver card renewed at the earliest 6 months and at the latest 15 working days before it expires.
