Radiation protection
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzThe regional trade supervisory offices of the structural and licensing directorates perform the following tasks with regard to radiation protection:
- licensing
- the operation of X-ray facilities and irradiation equipment,
- the handling and disposal of other radioactive substances,
- the use of occupationally exposed persons in external facilities and installations, including the registration of radiation passports,
- Acceptance of notifications for the operation of X-ray equipment,
- Certification of the required specialist knowledge or expertise in radiation protection
- Examination of the appointment of radiation protection officers
- Supervision in companies, research laboratories, hospitals and medical, dental and veterinary practices to ensure that the equipment (e.g. X-ray equipment, irradiation equipment, radiometric level measurement systems) and radionuclide laboratories are operated in accordance with the statutory provisions and in compliance with special licensing requirements.
- Monitoring the transportation of radioactive substances.
- Measures to avert danger and investigations in the event of loss, discovery and accidents involving other radioactive substances.
