Certificate of Descent

Source: BUS Rheinland-Pfalz

The parentage certificate was abolished on 01.01.2009 by the Civil Status Reform Act. With the abolition of the parentage certificate, an adoption can only be determined by a certified register expression of the birth entry.

The parentage certificate served as proof of the birth of a child. It contains additional information (such as name changes or the registration of an adoption) that is not noted on the birth certificate.

The certificate of descent was required for marriages, as it could be used to identify the biological parents. Only the legal parents are noted on the birth certificate. The task of the parentage certificate was to identify obstacles to marriage in adopted children.
