Apply for a birth certificate
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzAfter birth, every child in Germany must be registered in the register of births. After this registration, you can also apply for a birth certificate to be issued. This proves the birth of the person and contains details of the place and time of birth as well as the first name and surname. As a rule, it also contains details of the person's gender and parents.
You will need a birth certificate in various contexts throughout your life. It can also be issued on a multilingual form for use abroad. You can use it in many countries without a translation.
You can have an (international) birth certificate issued at the registry office that recorded your birth. In federal states where there is a central register network, you can also obtain the birth certificate from any other registry office in the register network there.
Here you can order certificates and certified copies online from the Worms registry office.
You can also apply for certificates and transcripts in person at the Worms registry office (by appointment only).

Birth certificates are also issued in abbreviated form. They then only contain the first name and surname, as well as the date and place of birth of the child.
Civil status certificates can only be issued to authorized persons. In accordance with § 62 PStG, they are to be issued on request to the persons to whom the register entry relates, as well as their spouses, partners, ancestors and descendants. Other persons have a right to the issue of civil status certificates if they can credibly demonstrate a legal interest; in the case of the register of births or deaths, the credible demonstration of a legitimate interest is sufficient if the application is made by a sibling of the child or the deceased. Persons over the age of 16 are authorized to submit applications.
By issuing a written power of attorney from the authorized person, civil status certificates can also be issued to the persons named in the power of attorney.

After ordering your certificate, please send us a copy of your identity document and, if necessary, a power of attorney to prove your identity. You are welcome to send this by email as an attachment to urkunden@worms.de or by post.
We will only issue and send your certificate once we have received all the necessary documents and payments.
The processing time is currently at least 3 weeks. This is due to the high number of applications. Please refrain from inquiring about the status of your application, as this will delay the work processes. Thank you very much!
