Deregister residence due to emigration
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzIf you move out of your sole residence and do not move into another residence in Germany, you must deregister. This is regularly the case if you move abroad.
If you move within Germany, you do not have to deregister. It is sufficient to register with your new municipality.
Special information for District-free City Worms
There is an obligation to deregister when moving abroad. According to § 17 Para. 2 of the Federal Registration Act (BMG), deregistration must take place at the registration office within 2 weeks of moving out and can take place at the earliest 1 week before moving out.

Deregistration can be carried out by an authorized representative on presentation of a power of attorney, a copy of the identity document of the person concerned and the identity document of the authorized representative.
