When you move into an apartment, you must register.

You do not need to deregister with the registration authority in whose jurisdiction your previous home was located.

Regardless of nationality, every resident is subject to a general registration obligation.

If you move, you must re-register within two weeks - this can now also be done online in Worms.

If you have a spouse/partner and/or underage children who have already lived with you at the same address, you can register as a family. Select whether your spouse/partner and/or your underage children should also be registered.

It is not possible to register an apartment in advance. Written registration is also not possible.

For minors:

From the age of 16 and their own home, they must register themselves.

In the case of a family move, parents can also register their children up to the age of 18.

Before the age of 16, the persons whose home the minor is moving into are obliged to register. This is usually the parents.

In Worms, a secondary residence tax is levied for secondary residences. Details can be found here

Anyone who does not register or does not register on time is committing an administrative offense and can be fined in accordance with § 54 BMG.

How the online service works:

To use the online service, the online ID function of the ID card or eID card and an official user account are required. If you do not yet have a user account, you can create a BundID. The easiest way to register online is with a smartphone.

After authentication with the AusweisApp, the data can be retrieved from the population register and updated. If you are renting, upload the landlord's confirmation of residence and send the application.

Once the data has been successfully checked by Department 3.07 Bürgerserviceböro, the user can download a forgery-proof digital registration confirmation. The address data on the chip of the ID card can now also be updated independently via the online service and the ID card app.

Finally, you will receive an automatic letter from Bundesdruckerei with an address sticker for the ID card and, if necessary, a residence sticker for the passport. This is applied independently according to the instructions.
