Infection protection advice

Source: BUS Rheinland-Pfalz

The aim of infection control is to prevent communicable diseases in humans, detect infections at an early stage and prevent them from spreading.
This is the task of the administrative districts and independent cities in cooperation with other institutions. They record notifiable communicable diseases, evaluate this information and take the necessary measures to prevent and combat infectious diseases. They offer free advice and vaccinations and carry out training courses.

Notifiable diseases are certain communicable infections that are subject to mandatory reporting and the detection of the pathogen, suspected infection, illness or death from the diseases specified in the law must be reported to the public health department.

This applies, for example, to

  • cholera
  • diphtheria
  • acute viral hepatitis
  • whooping cough
  • measles
  • mumps
  • Rubella including rubella embryopathy
  • rabies
  • Tyhpus abdominalis
  • Chickenpox

A complete list can be found in § 6 of the Notifiable Diseases of the Act on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases in Humans.
