Municipal Enforcement Service
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzThe municipal enforcement service is responsible for averting danger and maintaining public safety and order. The focus is on the prosecution and punishment of administrative offences such as:
- disturbances of rest,
- harassment of the general public,
- Monitoring of compliance with municipal statutes and ordinances, such as
- Field/Way Statutes,
- Street cleaning statutes,
- Hazard Prevention Ordinance
Under certain circumstances, municipal law enforcement officers may also be able to enforce these tasks against persons by force.
In district-free cities in Rhineland-Palatinate, the municipal enforcement service is usually responsible for the transfer of mentally ill people and takes over the delivery of them to appropriate facilities. In all other municipalities, the competent authority for this is the respective district administration. In larger cities and municipalities, there is a separation between municipal enforcement services and traffic monitoring. In smaller municipalities, the municipal enforcement officers are often also auxiliary police officers at the same time and thus responsible for the control of stationary traffic.
- Performing regulatory tasks in accordance with the POG (Police Regulations Act), e.g. disturbances of the peace
- Monitoring of stationary traffic
