Setting dog tax
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzThe dog tax is a local expense tax. It can be levied by the municipalities in accordance with municipal statutes for the keeping of dogs. The owner of a dog is anyone who has a dog in their household or business.
The keeping of guide dogs, service dogs, dogs belonging to forestry workers and gamekeepers, for example, may be exempt or reduced from the tax, depending on the municipal statutes.
The amount of dog tax is set out in the local dog tax rate/household statutes.
Current tax rates of the city of Speyer:
The tax for the first dog is € 105 per year.
For the second dog in your household, the annual tax is € 135
and €155 for each additional dog.
For dangerous dogs (Pitbull Terrier, Staffordshire Bullterrier, American Staffordshire Bullterrier) the tax is €385 per year.
Each additional dangerous dog is charged €620.
