With continuous specialized instruction, music schools lay the foundation for a lifelong active or passive involvement with music and enable their students to make music together in music school ensembles, in general education schools, in music clubs and in the family.
With this offer, music schools fulfill an important educational, cultural and social
socio-political mission, which is not least due to numerous cooperations with daycare centers, all-day schools, music clubs, etc.

The Music School of the City of Speyer is a public institution without legal capacity and is based in Speyer. The music school is run by the city of Speyer.
The music school has the task of introducing children, young people and adults to music, recognizing talents at an early stage, promoting them individually and also enabling pre-professional specialist training. It supplements and expands the instrumental and vocal training at general education schools.
The aim of the music education work is to awaken a comprehensive understanding of music alongside purely instrumental training.
The training is based on the guidelines of the Ministry of Culture on the organization and promotion of the music school system in Rhineland-Palatinate dated 21.6.1977 (Official Gazette of the Ministry of Culture in Rhineland-Palatinate No. 17/1977) in conjunction with the structural plan of the Association of German Music Schools.
There are currently 55 teachers looking after around 900 pupils.
