The street cleaning obligation for you as a resident is set out in the street cleaning statutes of your municipality. Municipalities can transfer the responsibility for cleaning the streets to the residents. Alternatively, the municipality can clean the streets itself and pass on the associated costs to you as a resident.

Special information for District-free City Mainz

In most areas of the city, Stadtreinigung Mainz cleans sidewalks and roadways. In accordance with the statutes, adjacent property owners must pay a street cleaning fee for this. In other streets, property owners or their representatives are responsible for cleaning themselves.

Stadtreinigung Eigenbetrieb der Stadt Mainz

KAW Mainz und Mainz-Bingen AöR (KAW for short) is responsible for waste disposal in the Mainz city area. Street cleaning is handled by the municipal waste management company Stadtreinigung Mainz.

KAW is responsible for the disposal of household waste (residual waste, biowaste and paper garbage cans), bulky waste and household-type waste from other areas (trade, industry, commerce, etc.) as well as the operation of waste disposal centers and recycling depots.

In addition to keeping public streets, sidewalks and squares clean, Stadtreinigung Mainz is also responsible for winter services.
