Broadcasting fee in the private sector Registration
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzThe broadcasting fee secures the financing of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio. With their programs, the broadcasters inform, educate, and entertain many millions of people every day.
Solidarity-based financing enables public service broadcasting in Germany to operate independently of political and economic interests. Therefore, citizens have to pay a broadcasting fee of EUR 18.36 for each apartment, regardless of how many people live in the apartment:
- If you move into an apartment, register the apartment with the contribution service of ARD, ZDF and Deutschlandradio for the broadcasting fee.
- If you live with several adults in the apartment, you can decide for yourself who registers the apartment.
- If you move into an apartment for which a broadcasting fee has already been paid, you do not need to register for the broadcasting fee.
You must register the apartment from the beginning of the month in which you move into the apartment.
The amount of the broadcasting fee and its due date are regulated by law. This means that you have to pay the broadcasting fee even if you have not received a special request for payment.
You can register online.
Exemption and registration of further apartments
In special cases, you can be exempted from the broadcasting fee or apply for a fee reduction.
You are already registered with an apartment for the broadcasting fee? On the online portal you can also register another apartment, for example a second home, secondary residence or privately used holiday apartment.
