Determining special needs education
Source: BUS Rheinland-PfalzPupils with special educational needs attend special schools in Rhineland-Palatinate or take part in inclusive lessons. The decision is made by the parents after consultation with the schools. There is a nationwide network of focus schools and special schools.
Focus schools are primary and secondary schools that offer inclusive education close to home. They
- offer both the school leaving certificate of the respective type of school and the special school leaving certificates of the special schools;
- can be attended by pupils with all funding priorities.
Special schools
- offer the funding priorities
-- learning, holistic development, language, social-emotional development, motor development,
-- Vision (school for the blind and visually impaired)
-- Hearing (School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing)
include, depending on the funding priority,
-- the entrance level of primary education,
-- primary and lower secondary education,
-- primary, secondary and vocational school (Werkstufe).
