Apply for an express passport

• You can only apply for a passport using the express order procedure in person at the Citizens' Registration Office.
• The application will be filled out by the office staff with you on site. All you have to do is sign it.
• When you apply, your fingerprints will be taken solely for the purpose of storing them in the passport chip.
  • Usually a flat print of the left and right index finger
  • Children under the age of 6 do not have to give a fingerprint.
• You will be notified when you can collect your express passport.
• You can authorize another person of legal age in writing to collect it from the authorities.
• For important reasons, you can also apply for the document in another municipality or at a German diplomatic mission abroad.

• You have German citizenship.
• There must be no grounds for refusing a passport. This includes, for example, the assumption that you will be able to obtain a passport by leaving the country.
  • criminal prosecution,
  • enforcement of a sentence or
  • to evade a statutory maintenance obligation.

• biometric digital passport photo: taken on site at the authority or by a registered domestic photo service provider (photographer)
• a valid identity document, for example:
  • Your old passport
  • temporary passport, identity card or temporary identity card
• if applicable, civil status certificate such as
  • birth certificate
  • marriage certificate
  • civil partnership certificate
• for children under the age of 16: if applicable, declaration of consent from the non-custodial parent present
  • if there is only one parent or guardian, additional proof of custody

The basic fees for the passport are doubled if

• the passport has to be issued outside official office hours or
• you do not apply for the passport to be issued at your main place of residence.
